The power-supply units for vehicles

                  Air-aluminum electrochemical generator-based power-supply units for vehicles

A transport power-supply unit (Fig. 1) has been developed, which utilizes an air-aluminum electrochemical generator (transport-purpose AA ECG-1.75) (Fig. 2) as the energy source (620 A-h, 16 600 W-h) and a storage battery as the power source (70 A-h, 3360 W-h). The power-supply unit is designed for supplying a lightweight (total weight up to 600 kg) Shuttle-4 battery-driven automobile made by E-Z-GO company, which is extensively employed in golf fields, parks, preserves, and other recreation zones (Fig. 3).

Its mass is close to that of a standard lightweight battery-driven automobile designed for intra-city passenger transportation, and its structure is quite simple and convenient for use as the platform of experimental test bed designed for investigation of low-power transport power-generating units

The power-supply unit provides for supply of peaking power up to 11.5 kW during acceleration, uphill motion etc., as well as for storage of regenerated energy of deceleration. The store of energy of combination power-supply unit provides for the run of battery-driven automobile in accordance with the international urban drive cycle of 240 km, which is five times that in the case of the base version. The mass of combination power-supply unit is 144 kg, which is 80 kg less than that of the base storage power-supply unit.

The transport-purpose AA ECG-1.75 developed for operation in the combination unit has a specific energy of 270 W-h/kg.

The AA ECG is recharged by way of replacing the anodes and alkali electrolyte. An easily detachable structure of anode assembly has been developed and patented for ensuring rapid replacement of the anodes.

The expected cost price of commercially produced combination power-supply unit is 60–70 thousand rubles; the cost of the run of battery-driven automobile under conditions of motion in accordance with the international urban drive cycle will be 5.02 rubles per kilometer.
