Institute for New Energetic Problems
(INEP JIHT RAS)
The Institute was set up in 1964. Until 1992, it functioned as Special Design Bureau (first – Special Design Bureau of New Equipment of the USSR Ministry of Power and Power Plants, and later – Special Design Bureau of Joint Institute for High Temperatures of Russian Academy of Sciences). In 1992, the Special Design Bureau was transformed into Science and engineering center for energy-efficient processes and equipment (NTC EPU OIVT RAN). In 2006, in view of reorganization at Joint Institute for High Temperatures, the Center was transformed into Institute for New Energetic Problems (INEP JIHT RAS).
From the very start, the activities at Institute of New Energetic Problems were carried out in two closely related spheres, namely, research and development of new technologies and equipment.
Unique apparatuses have been developed at Institute of New Energetic Problems, which are capable of operating at temperatures up to 3000 K under conditions of strong magnetic and electric fields.
The principal branches of economy, for which investigations were performed and new technologies were developed, include
- Power generation and energy conservation
- Transport
- Agricultural production complex and food industry
- Metallurgy
Special mention should be made of activities associated with minisources of energy.
Topically, the activities may be classified as follows:
Monitoring of energy consumption and energy auditing.
As was already mentioned above, some of the activities are in the R&D stage. Most of the developments have already been reduced to practice or are ready for adoption.
